Cooper Road Closure Update

The Jackson County Department of Transportation (JCDOT) has closed Cooper Road between M-106 and Maple Grove Road due to two cross road culvert failures, which are approximately one quarter mile apart. JCDOT was forced to close the road because of continued undermining.

The first culvert failure which is a county drain, occurred on April 6, 2017, near Thorpe Road. This culvert is south of the culvert which failed yesterday, June 7, 2017. This north culvert has a flowing body of water through it, a tributary of the Grand River.

JCDOT is collaborating with the Department of Environment Quality and the Jackson County Drain Commissioner to get the appropriate permits to replace the culverts.

The road will remain closed for several weeks until all required permits have been acquired.

No detour route will be posted, and motorists should seek an alternate route.
