VANDERCOOK Lake HAB Advisory Sign

Advisory for Vandercook Lake - Potential Harmful Algae Bloom

As of August 1, 2024, a potential Harmful Algae Bloom (HAB) has been reported on Vandercook Lake. Please take the following precautions:

DO NOT touch water or shoreline with algal blooms.

DO NOT boat, jet ski, or fish in algal blooms.
DO NOT swim or recreate in algal blooms.
DO NOT let pets swim in or drink water near algal blooms.

Always rinse people and pets off after any water contact.
Call your doctor or veterinarian if you or your pet/animal get sick after going in the water.

When in doubt, keep yourself, children, and pets out of the GREEN WATER!
Harmful algal blooms can look like spilled paint, pea soup, floating scums, mats, sheens, clumps, or streaks. Remember, algal toxins are within the bloom itself. Clear water well away from the bloom is safe to swim in.

Stay informed and stay safe! For more information, visit Michigan.gov/HABs.
