Applying for a Marriage License

PLEASE NOTE:  If you live in Michigan, one of the applicants MUST be a Jackson County resident. If you live out of state, you must apply in the County where your marriage ceremony will take place.  After applying, you must contact the office to let a clerk know that you have applied. Government-issued photo identification is required to be shown at the time of pick up.  If you are unsure if you qualify, contact our office prior to completing the online application.

Please review the Affidavit For License to Marry (PDF) for required information prior to visiting the office. Government-issued photo identification listing your current address will also be required to be shown.
 


Fees

  • $20 for Michigan residents
  • $30 for out-of-state applicants
  • $20 to waive the three day waiting period (excluding active military personnel)
  • $15 to purchase a certified copy of your marriage certificate after you are married

Waiting Period


Michigan has a 3 day waiting period. The following is a list of the pick up schedule:

Marriage licenses must be used within 33 days from the date of application. Instructions on processing the license after the marriage ceremony will be provided at the time the license is picked up.
