Death Records

In Michigan, death records are filed in the County where the death occurred.  There are several options to obtain a copy of a Jackson County death record.

 

    
 

Send a Written Request

Send a written request that includes the full name of the deceased and date of death. The cost of a certified death record is $15.00 for the first copy, and $5.00 for each additional copy. Please include a check or money order made payable to the Jackson County Clerk's Office, and a self-addressed, stamped envelope for the return.  

You may also email your request to clerkvital@mijackson.org that includes your return address and phone number, and a clerk will call you for your credit card information. Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover are accepted. Enhanced Access Fees will apply.

Our office is located on the twelfth floor of the Jackson County Tower Building located at 120 W. Michigan Ave, Jackson, MI 49201. Correcting a Death Record

To make a change or correction to a Michigan death record, an application must be submitted to the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services. For more information, you may contact the Changes Unit at 517-335-8660, or visit their website MDHHS.
