LARA licenses and regulates all day cares, children’s camps and foster care homes.  

If the establishment is required to have an Environmental Health inspection, an Environmental Health Inspection Request Form should be submitted to the Environmental Health Division at 1715 Lansing Ave, Room 001, Jackson, MI 49202. The licensing agent or care provider will complete the form with payment (if applicable).

Once the inspection request form and payment (if applicable) are received, an Environmental Health Division Sanitarian will contact the care provider to schedule an appointment for the inspection. If the care provider does not hear from the sanitarian within two weeks from submittal, call 517-788-4433 to schedule an appointment.

The Sanitarian will use the requirements listed in the State of Michigan Department of Human Services Licensing Rules for Child Care Centers (PDF), specifically the information listed under Part 2. Environmental Health Provisions on pages 27-33. If applicable, Part 5 – Swimming Provisions from pages 45 - 46.
