To become a licensed body art facility, begin by visiting the Michigan Department of Health & Human Services (MDHHS) website at www.michigan.gov/bodyart and acquire the necessary applications, forms and other resources.
Prior to applying for a Body Art license, complete the plan review checklist and application . A sanitarian will review your plans and send out written approval; once written approval is received, you may start construction of the facility. Please do not construct anything before being given approval to do so.
Once receiving written approval, you should apply for your license with the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS). MDHHS will inform Jackson County Health Department (JCHD) to set up a pre-opening inspection with you. If there are no issues during the inspection, JCHD will notify MDHHS of approval and they will send your Body Art Facility license. Annual routine inspections are required by Jackson County Health Department. For questions about body art facilities contact the Jackson County Environmental Health Office at 517-788-4433 or Michigan Department of Health and Human Services at BodyArt@michigan.gov
