Equalization advises and assists the Board of Commissioners in equalizing property tax assessments on a county-wide basis. In conformance with state directives the department conducts annual sales and appraisal studies. These studies are used to equalize the assessed values of each class of property in each of the 20 units of government within Jackson County. Equalization works with all the taxing authorities to assure that the millage rates that are applied to the July and December tax bills have followed all state directives and are levied accurately.
